![]() ![]() In 2016, Telkom Indonesia bought all the stake formerly owned by SK Telecom following the SK Telecom's divestment from all Melon businesses, thus making Melon Indonesia an Indonesian company. In 2010, Melon was launched by SK Telecom in Indonesia, in partnership with Telkom Indonesia. At that time, the streaming platform boasted 33 million users and around 5 million paying users. This joint venue aimed to secure their leadership in the showbiz industry. In 2021, Melon merged with Kakao Entertainment and rebranded itself as "Melon M". In 2018, Kakao M spun-off from Kakao, but Melon stayed. Later in January 2016, Kakao acquired a 76.4% stake in the company for 1.87 trillion won (approximately $1.64 billion). In July 2013, SK Planet, a subsidiary of SK Telecom, sold 52.56% of its stake in Loen Entertainment to Star Invest Holdings Limited, a subsidiary of Affinity Equity Partners, a Hong Kong-based private equity firm. In October 2008, SK Telecom transferred the majority of Melon's stock to its shareholder Loen Entertainment for approximately 24.3 billion KRW. It attracted more than 10,000 subscribers per day on average, surpassing 310,000 on its first few months. Melon was founded on November 16, 2004, in South Korea by SK Telecom, South Korea's largest wireless carrier. The name "Melon" is a portmanteau of the phrase "melody on". Melon users can stream and download music and music videos and create custom ringtones. In fact, a survey of users of smartphones found that they were the most used applications by Koreans. Melon is the most popular music streaming service in South Korea. Melon is South Korea's largest music subscription service, with over 28 million users. Step 11 – If you’re on the Melon homepage, the login box that was previously there should be replaced with something like this. Step 10 – You’ve made an account with Melon using Kakao Talk! But you first have to set your ID now so press the button to login. Step 9 – Terms of Service stuff, just check the first box and all boxes will auto-fill. Step 8 – Go back to Melon login page and press “카카오계정 로그인” if you weren’t already redirected to Melon. Step 7 – You’ve created your Kakao Talk account, now you need to login with it to start the Melon account creation process. It can take awhile so be patient, be sure to check all of your folders so you don’t miss it. Step 6 – Enter the 8-digit verification code that was sent to your email. Enter all of the required information, please do note you’ll have to verify your email so use a valid one. Just press all the Required checkmarks and hit next. In this tutorial we’ll be signing up for a new one as we recommend creating a new one entirely as we don’t want you to have to feel like you have to give us your personal Kakao Talk account information. Step 3 – Either login with your Kakao Talk account or Sign Up for a new one. Step 2 – You’ll be redirected to the login page.
